Nonprofit

The American Studies degree affords students with insight and critical thinking skills that prepare them to take an active role helping to change and fix the world around them, whether at the local, regional, national, or international level. American Studies students have gone on to work for nonprofit and activist organizations in an effort to create a better world; these graduates have set their sights on combating poverty, fighting environmental degradation, and working for more balanced gender representation in politics. Students may benefit from internships with nonprofits as they make their way toward graduation, and they may usefully pair their American Studies major with one of the following minors: Environmental Science; Civic Engagement Leadership; International Development; and Nonprofit Management.
